FAQ's

GENERAL Q's, DESIGN Q's, HOSTING Q's, EMAIL Q's

Q. How does a website get on the Internet? Websites are stored on servers that have high speed connections to the Internet, this service is called Hosting. With the increasing popularity of the Internet and World Wide Web, there has also been an increase of Hosting companies that have been established. Hosting companies sell disk space on their protected servers. Once a website is designed on a local computer, the file is uploaded to the Hosting company's server in order to be accessed through the Internet. See Coey 's hosting plans.

Q. What types of payments do we accept? We accept cash, checks, money orders along with the following credit cards: VISA, Master Card, Discover and Paypal.

Q. I don't have a credit card. Can I use a check or money order? Yes. See above payments accepted.

Q. Do you provide technical support? Yes. We provide assistance with questions regarding web hosting, account options, emails and we help with design, custom designs and coding your website.

Q. How do I upload my site? You can upload your site using FTP and/or you can ask Coey for assistance.

Q. How does an SSL certificate work? An SSL certificate ensures safe, easy, and convenient Internet shopping. Once an Internet user enters a secure area — by entering credit card information, email address, or other personal data, for example — the shopping site's SSL certificate enables the browser and Web server to build a secure, encrypted connection. The SSL "handshake" process, which establishes the secure session, takes place discreetly behind the scene without interrupting the consumer's shopping experience. A "padlock" icon in the browser's status bar, the "https://" prefix in the URL, and an icon linked to the registry of the SSL are the only visible indications of a secure session in progress.

By contrast, if a user attempts to submit personal information to an unsecured website (i.e., a site that is not protected with a valid SSL certificate), the browser's built-in security mechanism triggers a warning to the user, reminding him/her that the site is not secure and that sensitive data might be intercepted by third parties. Faced with such a warning, most Internet users will likely look elsewhere to make a purchase.

Q. How will visitors find my website? Most web surfers use search engines, using key words relating to the subject they would like to research. Registering with most of the more popular search engines, for additional fees, will provide a link for visitors searching your website. The primary goal when registering for a search engine is to have your web page index to appear near the top of the search results. Preparing your website with meta tags will help your website come up with specific keywords which Coey completes in all design and maintenance work. See Coey SEO & Web Optimization for more information.

DESIGN Q's

Q. How much does a website cost? There isn't an easy answer to this. Since their are so many factors that can impact the cost of a website. Whether the website has Flash, databases and/or online forms and how many pages all impact the price. As you can see, there are many factors that can affect the cost. Coey does provide some base prices which can be found on our Rates page. All our quotes are free of charge.

Q. What is the difference between JPEG images and GIF images? And what is the purpose for both? A GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) is the first graphic format used for online images used on the Internet and is the only image that allows a transparent background if available. JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) is a newer graphical format used on the Internet which uses a different compression algorithm than GIF. The purpose of the two formats is to have a standard for images on the Internet that can be accessed by different computer platforms. GIF also allows for transparent backgrounds and JPEG does not.

Q. Why do some images take so long to load? Large images take longer to download. One of the highest priorities in designing images and animation's for the Internet is the time it takes for it to load. There are several ways to minimize download time for graphics. First of all, using smaller images will greatly reduce download times. When using a smaller image is not an option, compressing the image can decrease download time. There are three commonly used compression methods: JPEG, PNG and LZW. LZW is a compression method used on GIF's. PNG is a new graphical format that is gaining popularity on the Internet.

Q. What if I design a website using one of Coey's packages and need to add a page right away? That's great! Just contact us and we will design a new button and upload it. Either one of us can add your content. New buttons do have a cost, approximately $37.00 per button.

EMAIL Q's

Q. What is the difference between email forwarding and an actual POP3 email account? Basically, email forwarding just redirects an email written to your domain name (i.e. info@yourname.com) to a true email box/account (i.e. Johndoe@comcast.net). With a POP3 email account, the email sent to your domain name (i.e. info@yourname.com) will go into your domain name's in-box, allowing you to reply from the same email address.

Q. How much is a POP email account on my domain name? We sell POP3 email boxes with hosting packages or individually such as yourname@coeytech.com. See our pricing on the hosting plans or POP Email accounts pages.

Q. All I need is one POP email account, can I buy just one? Yes. If you just need one, buy an Email Pack and use only one mailbox.

Q. Can I split the mailboxes I get with one Hosting Plan into several for multiple domains? Yes, but a maximum of 2 domain names per hosting plan.

Q. How do I set-up my web mail? Your "web mail" is created as soon as you create an email account. All settings are automatically configured and you are ready to go online, login to your account and start sending/receiving email. Email us so we can send you your settings.

Q. How do I login to my email / web mail? Email us so we can send you instructions.

Q. Can I change my email password? Yes. Send us an email with your request.
